How Green & Gold CSA works:
Starting in 2026, after seven years, our free-choice, market-style CSA pickups are switching to pre-boxed, fully customizable shares. You get to choose from all currently-available crops on the farm for your weekly share, and we will box it all up for you! If you don’t want to choose (or can’t on any given week), we’ll choose a great selection for you!
We are also switching to one share size, a little larger than our former small share, averaging seven items per week. For those who want larger shares, or to add-on items to their share on a weekly basis, you can purchase extra produce through our CSA software, GrownBy!
Shares are lighter and full of tender greens during the late spring. They bulk up in the summer with a rainbow of color and an almost-overwhelming bounty. In the fall, they are full of starchy, satisfying storage crops and the return of leafy greens. Our produce comes to you freshly picked, so it will last longer than grocery store produce, if you store it right. Vegetables from season to season are listed below—if you’re curious about what varieties we grow, they’re listed in the Vegetable Dictionary under Resources.
Summer & end of Spring: Arugula, basil, beans, beets, bok choy, broccoli, broccoli raab, cabbage, carrots, chard, cilantro, cucumbers, dill, fennel, eggplant, garlic and scapes, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce, leeks, peas, peppers, melons, parsley, potatoes, scallions, spinach, summer squash and zucchini, onions, tomatoes, tatsoi, salad turnips.
Fall: Arugula, beets, broccoli, broccoli raab, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, celery, cauliflower, chard, eggplant, escarole, fennel, garlic, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, parsley, parsnips, peppers, potatoes, shallots, spinach, radicchio, radishes, rutabaga, tatsoi, salad and storage turnips, winter squash.
We run two CSA seasons: Summer (12 weeks, mid-June through late August) and Autumn (8 weeks, early September through late October). They can be combined into a Full Season share for 20 weeks. We split summer and fall to easily accommodate the school year, to allow Vermont summer residents to take part in a local CSA, and to create more affordable options for those who want to take part in a CSA. Please not that Summer shares are limited, very popular, and usually sell out to returning members early. Current share prices are:
Full Season Shares (summer + fall): $560
Summer Shares, June-August: $340
Autumn Shares, September-October: $230
We also offer a few add-on shares with products from other farmers and vendors, in an effort to be more of a one-stop shop for members. This includes weekly vegetarian and omnivorous protein shares!
You may pay for your whole share up front, or utilize payment plans. We will email you detailed invoices and instructions after you sign up. We also take part in the NOFA Farm Share Program, offering subsidized shares to our low-income neighbors.
Members pick up their shares weekly from our different pickup locations:
Golden Rule Mead (8 Elm St, Middlebury, VT), Wednesday 2-7 pm.
On the farm (150 Horton Rd, Sudbury VT), Thursdays 1-7 pm.
If you cannot pick up on a given week, you will need to have a friend or family member ready to pick up for you or to enjoy your vegetables.
Please bring your own containers to pickup every week. You will need to transfer your share out of our containers into your own. Canvas bags, coolers, baskets, reused paper or plastic bags, jackets - we’ve seen it all! We try very hard as a farm to reduce plastic waste; single-use plastic bags are also banned in the great state of Vermont.
We provide an important weekly newsletter, emailed to you, to help identify unknown vegetables and provide information to cook with. We also let you know what is to be harvested the next week, if mother nature allows, so that you can plan meals ahead of time. The newsletter is integral to the CSA experience - it contains recipes, notes about the farm, and identifies all the vegetables available in the share. Your farmers spend a few hours every week on the newsletter and we urge you to utilize it!
