Additionally, we are always looking for collaborators and co-farmers to utilize our land for their own agricultural enterprises, no matter how small!
Are you a young farmer having difficulty securing land tenure? Do you have a deep passion for and experience with agriculture? Do you feel left out of farm entrepreneurship opportunities because of your inability to access land in traditional ways, like buying or inheriting it? Are you creative and do you work cooperatively with others? We’re looking for farming partners to help transform the land we steward into a diverse, resilient food production area. Our system will be part incubator, part collaboration. We are open to:
Livestock (dairy or meat cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, laying hens)
Fruit and nut trees (apples, pears, plums, pawpaw, persimmon, mulberries, filberts)
Perennial fruits (brambles, currants, grapes) and vegetables (asparagus, rhubarb)
Beekeeping
Medicinal herbs
Value-added products (pickles, fermented foods, dried herbs) and general farm marketing enterprises
The land includes 18 acres of pasture, 26 acres of forest, and about six acres of lake-adjacent wetlands. We are looking for folks who are dedicated to shaping their products and systems around what is best for this piece of land, and what best serves our local community - and this may take time. We are actively building infrastructure on our new property, and can’t currently offer housing, but we live close to multiple towns where rentals are available.
We are looking for people who are highly dedicated to agriculture; who are detail-oriented, observant, and have exceptional communication skills. Experience is strongly preferred, as you would initially be starting your own business here - already-functioning businesses looking for more permanent land tenure are strongly encouraged. We want diversity on our farm, but know that the small, family farm is an extremely difficult system to sustain. Therefore, we prefer the cooperation, stability, and camaraderie of multiple farm businesses operating on the same land. We have secure and diverse markets already, which you would immediately be able to tap into, including: a vegetable CSA (small but growing, and very popular), attendance at local farmers’ markets, and connections to other direct farm retailers in the area.
Ultimately, our goal is to build a community with folks who have farming experience and the knowledge to create an equitable and accessible food system. You can send proposals and a little about yourself to: greenandgoldcsa@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
